Frequently asked questions
What is the MDRD equation?
The 4-variable Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) Study equation: eGFR = 175 × Cr^−1.154 × Age^−0.203 × (0.742 if female). Race-free version.
Why use MDRD vs CKD-EPI?
MDRD was the standard from 1999–2009. CKD-EPI (2009/2021) is more accurate at eGFR > 60 mL/min/1.73 m² and is now preferred for routine reporting.
Is the race coefficient included?
No. This calculator uses the race-free version of MDRD, in line with the 2021 NKF-ASN Task Force recommendation.
What units does this use?
Creatinine in mg/dL, age in years. Output in mL/min/1.73 m².
