Frequently asked questions

Will converting MOV to MP4 lose quality?

Usually no. MOV and MP4 are container formats — they often hold the same H.264 video and AAC audio inside. When that is the case, this tool does a lossless container swap (no re-encoding) so quality is bit-for-bit identical. If the MOV uses an incompatible codec, the tool falls back to a high-quality H.264 re-encode at CRF 22.

Why does my MOV file sometimes already play as MP4?

MOV (QuickTime) and MP4 share the ISO Base Media File Format spec, so they are structurally very similar. Browsers and media players often play MOV files just fine. The difference matters when uploading to services (YouTube, social media, email) that reject .mov extensions or QuickTime-specific atoms — converting fixes that.

What is the maximum file size?

Up to 2 GB on desktop. Mobile browsers may struggle above 500 MB because the entire file must fit in browser memory. Nothing is uploaded to a server — your video stays on your device.

Is this tool free and does it add a watermark?

Completely free, no signup, no watermark, no time limit. The FFmpeg engine runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly — no video data ever leaves your device.
